As well as working towards his apprenticeship, operating several ferrite machining centres and working with the machine shop staff to ensure customer deliveries are always met. Gateway are proud to announce that our Engineering Apprentice, Alex Peake, has been presented with an award for Young Volunteer of the Year sponsored by Everybody Gym.

Alex was nominated by Crewe Football Club after completing both FA badges in coaching and first aid at just 16 years old.

Recently, Alex has dedicated a lot of his spare time outside of work to coach children ranging from the ages 3-14.

“I was surprised to be in the final 4 as I wasn’t aware of my nomination”. Presenting the award to Alex was Sharron Davies, Silver Olympian medallist from the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Alex was presented with a certificate and a medal for his achievement.

Alex plans to achieve his Level 1 and 2 Goal Keeping Badges however he also needs to complete his Level 2 outfield coaching badge to do this. He also plans to stay training with Crewe FC 1st team at Cumberland Sports Ground.

“What a fantastic achievement; we are all very proud of Alex, he exemplifies the Gateway spirit of CanDo, and goes about his work with great enthusiasm, but also genuine humility. He is an asset to the team.”, commented Gateway MD, Martin Ford.
