Richard Dunning is Marathon Running!!
Richard Dunning our IT Director here at Gateway has decided to take on the challenge of running the London Marathon.
A message from Richard…
“Having completed the London Marathon twice before (once in my 20s and once in my 30s) I promised myself that that was it, no more, never again.
However, having spent weekends over the last 5 years working at over 100 mass participation events in water safety and marshalling roles I started to think, maybe, just maybe, I was still just about fit enough to have a go at an event myself. So last year I joined Team Gateway (Gateway Electronic Components) and completed a 10 mile Tough Mudder Course and also challenged myself to complete the London 10k Run.
I am in my 40s (just about) and for some crazy reason I decided last year to enter the ballot for a place in this years London Marathon, would you believe it, I was chosen and offered a place.
Needless to say, after a minor freak-out, the training had to then begin, and with the big day nearly here I am now actually starting to look forward to it.
Having waited until I was confident (as confident as I can be) that I am ready to take on the 26.2 mile challenge, it is now time to start fundraising, so that my chosen charity can benefit from my pain and exhaustion.
Macmillan Cancer Support are here to help you find your best way through from the moment of diagnosis, so you’re able to live life as fully as you can.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Macmillan.
Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity’s behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
I really appreciate all your support and anything you can donate (large or small) will REALLY help Macmillan Cancer Support and also knowing my chosen charity is receiving your support will give me that extra reason to stay strong, dig deep, keep going and complete the 26.2 miles at this years London Marathon.
Thank you Richard xxx (this year will be the last time, no more, never again – maybe!)”
