Gateway Electronic Components are a leading specialist distributor of ferrite material and are the only stockist in Europe to have a specialist machining facility in house. The Machine Shop specialises in machining ferrite material and has become a global leader in machining custom geometries from ferrite blocks. We use the latest, cutting-edge technology to achieve industry leading tolerances and are renowned for pushing the boundaries of what is achievable with Ferrite material.


The Role:


The role of Machine Operator is to work to support the day-to-day running of The Machine Shop and to form close working relationships with the other members of The Machine Shop to ensure the team are working safely and efficiently while meeting deadlines. The Machine Operator will report to The Machine Shop Manager.


The individual will be expected to program and operate CNC and NC machinery after completing an extensive training programme. This will involve using a CAD system with an aim to eventually assist in the production of drawings and toolpaths for every job. The candidate will always follow The Machine Shop safe working practices and procedural guidelines. They will also use a range of measuring equipment to test components to electrical and dimensional specifications, ensuring the specification has been achieved. This at times will require extensive testing, visual quality checks and the use of FAIR’s, when requested by the customer.


The Machine Shop requires all members to perform daily safety and maintenance checks. The team is responsible for the full cleaning and housekeeping of The Machine Shop and the company take great pride in its presentation. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring all consumables are maintained at relevant stock levels which will require the individual to communicate with other departments to ensure this is the case.


The nature of The Machine Shop will require the individual to carry out tasks that are not part of the day to day running of The Machine Shop and may involve exploratory work to further enhance our capabilities. The Machine Shop is responsible for orders from initial enquiry to packaging the parts to ship. This will require an individual who is able to switch from job to job easily, help produce detailed breakdowns for new jobs, as well as designing suitable packaging. The Machine Shop is an open environment which encourages free thought and input to help enhance our procedures.


From time to time the role may require the candidate to work outside of the normal working pattern to ensure order deadlines are met, this will be managed based on capacity and notice will be given wherever possible.


The Machine Shop has built a strong reputation for cutting edge ferrite machining and consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible, as such the processes, procedures, tooling, and all other information relating to The Machine Shop is to be treated as strictly confidential. The Machine Shop operates in the Automotive and Aerospace industries and works with some of the world’s leading technology companies, some of these relationships are governed by confidentiality agreements and NDA’s. The individual will be responsible for ensuring all information relating to The Machine Shop is kept strictly confidential and all agreements are adhered to.


The role requires the individual to constantly evaluate and analyse all processes and procedures to ensure optimal efficiency throughout the business unit. The Machine Shop prides itself on a CanDo attitude and has established a global presence based on our ability to think outside of the box, the role requires a driven individual who can think outside of the box who thrives on challenges.

 

Responsibilities:


  1. Machine Operation: Operate a variety of machines, such as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, mills, grinders, and other equipment to perform cutting, shaping, and finishing operations on workpieces.

  2. Setup and Calibration: Set up machines with the appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials. Ensure proper calibration and alignment for accurate machining processes.

  3. Quality Assurance: Monitor the machining process to maintain product quality and meet specifications. Conduct regular inspections and measurements to verify the accuracy of finished parts.

  4. Material Handling: Handle and store raw materials and finished products safely and efficiently, following proper material handling procedures.

  5. Tool Maintenance: Maintain and replace tools as needed to ensure optimal machine performance and reduce downtime.

  6. Programming: Assist in programming CNC machines, including adjusting parameters and tool paths, under the guidance of the engineering team.

  7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and colleagues.

  8. Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot issues with machines, making necessary adjustments and reporting complex problems to supervisors or maintenance personnel.

  9. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including work logs, inspection reports, and any other relevant documentation.

  10. Continuous Improvement: Suggest and participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, productivity, and product quality.

  11. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to meet production goals and deadlines effectively.

  12. Cleanliness and Organisation: Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring proper storage of tools and materials.

 

Requirements:


  1. Experience: Previous experience as a machine operator or in a similar manufacturing environment is preferred but not essential.

  2. Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in machining tasks and quality inspections.

  3. Safety Conscious: Committed to adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a safe work environment.

  4. Physical Stamina: Capable of standing for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and performing repetitive tasks.

  5. Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with machines and processes.

  6. Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new machining technologies and methodologies.
